Nelly Is Performing ‘Country Grammar’ At Bonnaroo In Celebration Of The Album’s 20th Anniversary
On Tuesday (Jan. 7), the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival announced its 2020 lineup ahead of its 17th annual concert. A full list of performers was published on the event’s official Twitter account, unveiling an exciting mix of headliners that include Lizzo and Tame Impala.
However, one set stood out from the rest as the flyer made its rounds online.
On the third night of Bonnaroo, St. Louis legend Nelly is slated to perform his acclaimed Grammy-winning debut album, Country Grammar, in its entirety. The annual festival, which kicks off in June, will take a course over four days in Manchester, Tennessee, starting Thursday (June 11) and concluding that Sunday (June 14).
Shortly after the announcement, the album’s title surged to the top of Twitter’s trending topics as fans eagerly relayed the pleasantly surprising news. Longtime hip-hop fans were also hit with a deep sense of nostalgia in recognition of the fact that 2020 will mark the 20th anniversary of the diamond-certified album since its release in the summer of 2000.
“Nelly about to have us all shaking tail feathers like it’s 2000,” one user said.
There was some confusion as to whether Nelly is to perform the whole Country Grammar album or just the hit single of the same name, after others pointed out the flyer read, “Nelly performing Country Grammar.”
“These kids really think Country Grammar is just a single song and don’t realize it’s an entire album. Me and Nelly are too old for this s**t,” one user remarked.
