Both the Barbs Army and Bardi Gang kept a close eye on the silent war they believe to be brewing between New York femcees Nicki Minaj and Cardi B—a war they anticipated would undoubtedly peak at the 2018 MTV VMAs as both women were in attendance.

There were a few places this proposed exchange might have taken place too, such as the main stage where Nicki took home the award for Best Hip Hop Video or during her queenly, fan-sweeping, golden affair of a performance. Or, it could have went down when Cardi scored her first solo win of the night with Song of the Summer or during her hilarious troll-mastering speech that opened the awards show. Despite both of them having a fair amount of stage time, the Queen femcee and Bronx breakout star never physically crossed paths. But a few concluding words from Cardi’s acceptance speech after nabbing a moon man for Best New Artist certainly turned heads.

“All the love that my fans, that my friends, that everybody shows me is genuine, is beautiful, and that’s something that God gives me that you can’t buy…b**ch,” Cardi topped off on the speech with a sweetly shady grin.

While not everyone might have caught the shade, or even believed it to be aimed at Nicki, anyone with a social media account and a pair of eyes and ears should be fully aware by now of the debut sales controversy surrounding the Young Money femcee’s Queen album.

And on that account, Cardi and Nicki fans are about 99.9 percent certain that the Invasion of Privacy rapper had one person in mind for that last snide word from her Best New Artist acceptance speech.
