Everyone Needs To Read Russell Simmons' PSA For Kanye West
While Black Twitter is laughing along to the Kanye West rhetoric-inspired “#IfSlaveryWasAChoice” sensation, social media’s comedic relief from his inflammatory comments about America’s history of African slavery, Def Jam founder Russell Simmons is cracking down on a rehabilitation for the Chicago emcee.
Simmons reached out to the public with his call to action for a Kanye intervention. He reminded everyone of a simpler time when ‘Ye’s music and philanthropy overshadowed his now-turbulent behavior, the basis for why he needs fans and those closest to him now more than ever.
“Time for intervention,” he began. “No more memes. He has made your hits and stood with us in the trenches. I personally occupied Wall Street with him, and worked on countless Hip Hop summits as well had the opportunity to march with him. Ye, call your brother back.”
Simmons points to issues both domestic and foreign like race relations, poverty, police brutality, gun control and the warfare tarnishing Israel and Iran. Much like Yeezy’s most devout fans, he’s having a hard time wrapping his head around his flippant remarks about slavery.
“I refuse to believe a black man who supports black empowerment, but now says, ‘Slavery was a choice’, is operating with a healthy state of mind,” he concluded.
What do you say, Yeezians? Is it time for another Kanye rehabilitation as Uncle Rush suggests below?
