Regina King And Brian Tyree Henry Give Props To The Streets That Raised Them
Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins is following up the critically acclaimed Moonlight with the first adaptation of a James Baldwin novel, If Beale Street Could Talk.
While named for the "Beale Street Blues," the film is set in Harlem, New York, in the 1970s and tells the story of a young couple, Tish Rivers and Fonny Hunt, trying to keep their love alive while he is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Kiki Layne and Stephan James star as the young lovers with Regina King, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris and Brian Tyree Henry rounding out a stellar cast.
Beale Street made its international debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, and BET was at the premiere to ask the cast: “If the street you grew up on could talk, what would it say?”
