R. Kelly’s Ex-Wife Reveals This Heartbreaking Secret About Her Attempted Suicide

"I saw myself laying in a pool of blood..."

R. Kelly's domestic abuse allegations and sexual exploits have made headlines for years. Those closest to him have been spoken against on minimal occasions. His brother Carey made a jaw-dropping response to “I Admit,” the 19-minute confessional where he aired all of his dirty laundry. However, his ex-wife of 12 years and mother of his three children, Andrea Kelly, sat down with The View because “you can not not speak when someone’s life is parallel to yours.”

The two met in 1994 while Andrea was his backup dancer and married in 1996. During the first half of their marriage, Robert was sued three times for “alleged sexual contact with minors.” In 2005, she obtained an emergency protective order against the Pied Piper, citing claims of domestic abuse and filed for divorce in 2006. In 2008, the salacious degenerate stood trial for “14 counts of child pornography,” including the heinous video of him urinating on one of his victims. Their divorce was finalized in 2009.

The former reality star was inspired to speak out due to hearing another victim’s story.

  • “I wanted to bring some validity to these women’s stories because I think so much, it falls on deaf ears…"

"Some of the things she had described in detail, I had been through verbatim and it was something about that that pierced my spirit. I was like, ‘if no one else is going to speak up for her, if no one else is going to believe her, at least she knows that I do," she continued.

Andrea spoke on two separate occasions where she felt she was going to die. First, she mentioned him attacking her in the back of a Hummer. He "took my left arm, pulled it behind me and his weight was on my body. But he didn't realize his forearm was on my neck, so as he's pressing down, my breathing is getting labored."

  • "I just remember, it just got blue. And I thought, oh my God, I'm gonna die in the back of this Hummer and he's gonna drive off with my body in the backseat and nobody's gonna know," she stated tearfully.

To this day, she still suffers from PTSD over the attack. She then recounted another time where he had his knee in her back and tied her arms and legs together with the strap from his robe.

When she reached her breaking point, it was with the help of her youngest daughter, Joann, who gave her the strength to leave. "I had to be a living example for my daughter, but in that moment of strength, I had a moment of weakness when I left the room," she recalled.

  • "I had one foot on the railing and the other was on the wall, and when I looked down, God allowed me to see myself laying in blood," she stated while holding back tears.

Andrea cried, "I just remember hearing my kids' voices in the background saying, 'mama, why did she jump?' And that was my darkest moment because as a mom, when you're willing to leave your babies without their mom, that is your lowest low." This moment was prior to her 2005 restraining order and Andrea even stated that, currently, he is not financially supporting her or their children.
