President Obama Picks Kentucky to Win NCAA Tournament

Commander-in-Chief fills out annual tourney bracket.

In what's become a yearly tradition, President Obama took time out of his busy schedule Wednesday morning to fill out his NCAA Tournament bracket with ESPN.

Like many college basketball analysts and fans, POTUS is picking the Kentucky Wildcats to win it all. President Obama explained his Final Four predictions of Kentucky, ArizonaVillanova and Duke, before circling the Wildcats in as national champions on his bracket.

“I’m not a pundit, but I agree that Arizona has the best chance to beat Kentucky, but…I don’t think they quite pull it off,” Obama said. “I think Kentucky moves on. I suspect I will not be the only person who makes that pick.”

Regarding a Villanova-Duke Final Four matchup on the other side of the bracket, he added: “This one…I’m going to pick what may be seen as a mild upset. Although Nova obviously is ranked high, it hasn’t gotten as much attention, doesn’t get as much airtime, but this I think may be Nova’s year to get to the finals."

When it comes to a Kentucky-Villanova final, the President likes the Wildcats' chances of going 40-0 and taking the national championship home.

“The chances are high and I’m putting Kentucky in there,” he said, penning the school's name in as champions.

Although President Obama has only predicted the correct NCAA Tournament winner once — in 2009— he is far from alone in liking Kentucky's chances to win it all this year. Las Vegas sportsbooks gave the Wildcats top odds to win the 2015 NCAA Tournament as well. Will Kentucky make it happen?
