Denzel Washington Reveals How Long It’s Been Since He Auditioned
When it comes to auditions, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington says those days are long behind him.
In a recent interview with BBC 1Xtra, the Hollywood legend shared that he hasn’t auditioned for a role in nearly four decades.
“It’s been about 40 years for that,” the 69-year-old actor said. “I haven’t auditioned for a movie in about 40 years. I won an Academy Award in 1989, and I’m pretty sure no one has asked me to audition since then.”
When asked if he missed the audition process, Washington didn’t hesitate: “No,” he said, reflecting on the career he’s built through relentless dedication and undeniable talent.
With a decades-long legacy, Washington has taken on iconic roles in “Malcolm X,” “The Equalizer” series, and countless other hits. And it seems there’s more to come—he recently revealed that “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler is crafting a role for him in the franchise's third installment.
“For me, it’s about the filmmakers. Especially at this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best,” he said. “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done.”
Fans won’t have to wait long to see Washington back on the big screen. He stars in Ridley Scott’s epic historical drama “Gladiator II,” set to hit theaters on November 22.
