ASAP Rocky Explains Absence From XXL's Freshman List
As arguably the highest profile rapper to emerge in the last year and not be included on XXL magazine's Freshman 2012 cover, a lot of people were wondering how ASAP Rocky felt about this year's crop. At SXSW, Fuse caught up with the outspoken young artist for a comment on the issue and he did not disappoint.
"Personally, I think a lot of mother******* on the list is corny as f***," ASAP said bluntly. "I think a few people on there are eligible for it and they deserve to be on that cover. Shout out to Danny Brown."
Unlike another Harlem rapper, who was not picked for the cover, ASAP said that he had actually been selected for the list, but simply couldn't make the photo shoot because of scheduling issues.
"I was touring and stuff. It just didn’t work out," he said. "[But] I got love for everybody."
And as for a certain member of the cover that hails from Australia [Iggy Azalea] who is rumored to be Rocky's main squeeze. "No comment," he said simply.
ASAP's debut album, Long Live ASAP, is expected this July. The entire ASAP crew is also working on an ASAP Mob mixtape slated for May.
