Tanner Adell Shares the Adoption Story Behind Her Emotional New Song ‘Going Blonde’

The rising star opens up about her journey and the birth mother who inspired her heartfelt track.

Tanner Adell is getting vulnerable with her fans, it’s hitting all the feels. The rising country star recently took to social media to open up about her adoption story in a touching moment that’s resonating with many of her supporters.

In a heartfelt video shared on X, Tanner teased her upcoming track “Going Blonde,” revealing that the record was inspired by the birth mother she never got to meet.

The song—a dreamy yet poignant ballad, judging by the snippet—blends Tanner’s signature country-pop style with a deeper sense of longing and identity. And while her catalog already includes bold bops like “Buckle Bunny” and “Whiskey Blues,” this new track proves she’s just as powerful when she slows things down.

The response to the snippet was so overwhelming that Tanner decided to share her story in full. On Monday, the Lexington, Kentucky native took to her TikTok account, where she opened up about her journey.

The singer explained why she didn’t learn much about her biological parents until “much later.” She shared that she was the product of an affair. “My birth mom had a husband and kids, and when he was deployed, had an affair. [She] kept and placed me for adoption,” the songwriter revealed.

Tanner was ultimately adopted by a Mormon family who had already adopted two boys—which, she says, “that in itself is like a whole other story.”

“I was always very different, especially from my adopted mom. I really felt like nobody understood me and I just wanted to know why…” she explained. “And it felt like sometimes I wished that I had a mom that I really related to,” she added.

Elsewhere, Tanner admitted to struggling with feelings of abandonment and shared that, although her relationship with her adoptive mother has since improved, that wasn’t always the case. “I’m like Free People and she’s Ralph Lauren,” she quipped, adding, “She would agree.”

Fans can check out the two-part post on Tanner’s TikTok account. Meanwhile, “Going Blonde” drops on March 28, 2025.
