Soul Train Awards 2023: A Look at The Isley Brothers' Top 5 Collaborations Over the Years"

The funk group took home an award for ‘Best Collaboration' last year.

The Isley Brothers have graced us with some of the best r&b/soul hits, showcasing their artistic brilliance. The group is one of the most influential bands in American history. With 33 hit albums to their name, the Grammy Award-winning group is a testament that you can achieve everything and more than you can ever imagine with a long-lasting career.

From their hit 1973 song, “The Lady,” to their 2022 hit song, “Make Me Say it Again, Girl,” featuring Beyoncé, it is clear the group is not going anywhere anytime soon and has dominated every generation since rising to fame. Among their many accolades over the years, the group has been honored at the BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, American Music Awards, and Soul Train Awards. Last year, the brothers won the “Best Collaboration” award for “Make Me Say it Again, Girl” featuring Beyoncé.

In honor of the upcoming Soul Train Awards 2023, let’s reflect on The Isley Brothers' top collaborations.

  • Floatin On Your Love (Bad Boy Remix) ft Lil Kim and Angela Winbush

If there is one track from the 1990s to have on repeat, it’s the “Float On Your Love” Bad Boy remix featuring the iconic Diddy and Lil Kim. The original song “Floatin On Your Love” from the group’s 1996 album Mission to Please was already a solid sensual R&B bop. Still, with the addition of Lil Kim’s sharp rapping and Diddy’s musical touch, the remix proved to be just as solid.

  • Friends & Family ft Ronald Isley and Snoop Dogg

“Friends & Family,” released from their latest album, Make Me Say It Again, Girl, is the type of track to gather around with friends and family at the cookout or the wedding party. The song references the electric slide and the “two-step” dance. The song gives an old-school feel, making it such a strong track. Although when one thinks of the Isley Brothers, Snoop Dogg doesn’t particularly come to mind, he is the perfect person to feature in the song due to his laid-back, chill presence that the song emulates.

  • Said Enough w/Jill Scott

The intimate R&B soulful track from the group’s 2001 album “Eternal” is the epitome of a feel good love song. And there is no one better to feature in the vulnerable record than the timeless R&B artist Jill Scott. Jill’s blissful tones add the perfect touch to the song that brings a warm summer day to mind.

  • Make Me Say It, Again Girl ft Beyonce

In the sensual and soulful track “Make Me Say It, Again Girl,” featuring the iconic Queen Bey, the group is living proof that their work is timeless and will captivate listeners no matter what generation. The song is a remake of their 1975 song, “Make Me Say It, Again Girl (Part 1 & 2.) Beyoncé offers her twist to it that only gives the song even more of an intimate feel.

  • Busted ft Johnson Sisters

In the soap opera-inspired track “Busted” from the music group’s 2003 album “Body Kiss,” Ron Isley sings to Asia Johnson from the R&B duo Johnson Sisters, who has come home late, unlike her. He uncovers her lies as she continues to change her story. The R&B track keeps the listener engaged as they go back and forth, leaving it to us to determine whether Johnson is lying. The song differs from what fans are used to from The Isley Brothers and shows the range and the ability to jump out of their comfort zone effortlessly.
