Joan Rivers Defends Tracy Morgan
Another high profile comedian has chimed in on the Tracy Morgan controversy. This time, it’s in Tracy’s defense. Legendary comedian Joan Rivers says Tracy shouldn’t have to apologize. But, she didn’t kick off her defense with any compliment to Tracy’s comedic gifts.
Joan told The Daily Beast, “He’s not a Mensa comic. He’s not the voice of this generation.” The fellow equal opportunity offender says, “At the very start of my act, I say, ‘Calm down. We’re gonna get everybody.’” Joan chalks up much of the controversy to newfound sensitivity in the media.
She also explained how the role of the audience member can wrongly set the narrative and leave comedians like Morgan in trouble. Joan said, “Every idiot in this day and age now has a cell phone and they can take things out of context.” She further added, “My act, when you really listen to it out of context is so offensive, I would sue myself after every show.”
