Cissy Houston Speaks Out About Whitney

Cissy Houston says, "I don't blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything."

Cissy Houston, mother of the late Whitney Houston, has spoken out publically for the first time since her daughter's tragic death in February. Houston, a gospel music icon herself, sat down with long-time news anchor Brenda Blackmon on WWOR TV in New Jersey to talk about Whitney's legacy, her finances and the media frenzy surrounding her death.

"I know I did the best I could," Cissy said. "I don't blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything. My children are my whole life. She was very special to me, very special. She was my only daughter, and a good one."

Cissy lashed out at the media's coverage of Whitney — both when she was alive and after her death. "The media are awful," she said. "People have come from here and there [and] don't know what they're talking about. People I haven't seen in 20 years.... Here they come, [they] think they know everything, but that's not true. But God has his way of taking care of all of it, and I'm glad I know that. They really chopped on her, chopped on her…kept, kept, kept."

Cissy also seemed upset with speculation and rumors about Whitney's finances. "She's not broke. She's not anything, none of that crap," she said.

But more than anything, Cissy was still in mourning. "I don't get angry, I just miss her that's all," she said. "If I thought I could do something to bring her back that's what I'd do, but I know that's impossible."

In related news, Tyler Perry's rep just confirmed that Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, has landed a role on Perry's TBS sitcom For Better or Worse. Details are still emerging, so stay tuned.
