Despite all his years in the game, Ace Hood still manages to surprise us. For his latest, the Miami rapper is putting aside the bravado and braggadocio we've come to expect from him in order to pour his heart out about the complexities of fatherhood.

"Father's Day," isn't filled with Hallmark card sentimentality, but rather features an introspective Hood exploring the impact of growing up without a dad on this day in which we celebrate the father figures in our lives. "Happy Father's Day, I hate it had to be this way," he rhymes. He also atones for the mistakes he's made as a dad, his relationship with his two children and their mother, and in particular the loss of his daughter Lyric, who passed away soon after birth.

The song and accompanying video are a huge departure from his better-known hits like "Bugatti" and "Hustle Hard," showing the Broward County native's impressive range:

The track is part of Ace's forthcoming mixtape, StarVation (Starvation 5). Last week, Ace released the first track from the tape, "4th Quarter," just in time for the NBA Finals, which conclude tonight with Game 7. The full mixtape will release later this summer and feature appearances by Lil Wayne and Rick Ross.
