Drake Goes to Erykah Badu's House on 'Days in the East'
Drake is in a file sharing mood. Just a little over 24 hours after he dropped his hard-hitting ode to Johnny Manziel via his October's Very Own blog, he's released the more mellow and melodic "Days in the East," using the same platform, and this time featuring a shout-out to the Queen of Neo Soul, Erykah Badu.
"Remember one night I went to Erykah Badu house, she made tea for me/ We talked about love and what life could really be for me/ She said, 'when that s--t is real, you just know'/ And I was thinking bout you, you already know," Drake croons.
Is he talking about Rihanna? The lyrics come after a subtle lift of her line, "threw my hands in the air I said show me something," embedded in the PARTYNEXTDOOR and 40-produced track; and the two have been spotted together in the U.K., recently, where he first debuted the song, live on stage, last month. Birmingham fans may recognize it as "Call on Me."
"I'm terrible at inviting myself, call me over/ Those nights when you need someone else, call me over/ You can be the one to take control, call me over/ When I get there, you already know, call me,” he sings elsewhere on the track.
No word yet on where "Draft Day" and "Days in the East" will land, but according to Billboard, when he let loose the latter track while in the U.K., he announced that he has a new album in the works.
He dropped his last album, Nothing Was the Same, in September 2013.
