Miami-Dade Officer Placed on Leave After Detaining Tyreek Hill
The Miami-Dade Police Department placed an officer on administrative leave Sunday following an incident involving Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, just before the team’s season opener.
According to a statement by the team on X (formally known as Twitter), Hill was briefly detained by police and appeared to be kicked after a traffic stop on Sunday (Sept. 8) morning, just hours before the game. Hill's agent confirmed the wide receiver received a citation for a moving violation, though the reasons behind the escalation remain unclear.
On the same day, Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced an investigation into the incident, with one officer being placed on administrative duty. He added that a second Dolphins player was handcuffed while attempting to talk with officers at the scene.
“Following the incident involving Tyreek Hill, I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter. One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted,” Daniels said in a statement on X. “I’m committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers.”
Despite the earlier detainment, his day concluded with a triumphant comeback victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars. “I wasn’t disrespectful because my mom didn’t raise me that way, didn’t cuss, didn’t do none of that. Like I said, I’m still trying to figure it out,” Hill said at his postgame press conference, according to CNN.
