Ciara Recalls Finding Out ‘Goodies’ Was Almost Given to This Pop Star
It's not uncommon to hear about popular songs that almost went to different artists than the ones who made them famous.
During a recent appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” singer and dancer Ciara revealed that her breakout hit “Goodies” almost ended up in the hands of another pop star.
Ciara shared, “I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears.” She quickly clarified that there were no hard feelings, adding, “Britney wasn't the one trying to take my song because I love Britney.”
The “Hotline” singer expressed her deep connection to the track, saying, “That song was my baby. 'Goodies' is where everything began for me.” Still, Ciara acknowledged that if Spears had recorded the track, “those goodies would have sounded nice coming from her.”
A proud Atlanta native, Ciara released the Petey Pablo-assisted and Lil Jon-produced single “Goodies” on June 8, 2004. The record became a cultural phenomenon, catapulting her to stardom and earning her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song dominated the charts, staying at No. 1 for seven consecutive weeks and eventually going platinum, certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Ciara previously recounted this story on her “Level Up Radio” show with Apple Music in 2020. She reflected on how much the song meant to her at the time: “Had I known I was at risk of losing that track, I would have fought tooth and nail. It was a record I was deeply involved in creating. I was heavily involved in the writing process as well.”
