Waka Flocka's Response To The NFL's Unfavorable Super Bowl Halftime Pick Deserves A Round Of Applause

This Atlanta-raised emcee has some better choices in mind.

On Wednesday (Sept. 19), Billboard reported that famed pop-rock band Maroon 5 would be headlining Super Bowl 53, next February in Atlanta. Due to the notorious hip-hop scene based out of the A, many found it ridiculously insulting to have them headline the highly anticipated show.

According to the report, Bronx native Cardi B and Houston's own Travis Scott were "on the short list" to make guest appearances. However, that wasn't enough to appease fans and fellow Atlanta artists in the least. Despite the announcement being mere speculation, noted ATL-bred emcee Waka Flocka appeared very fazed by the news and made sure his concerns were voiced.

  • Although being born in Queens, NY, Waka's southern upbringing is why he felt the strong urge to express his outrage

In a video with TMZ Sports, Waka mentioned, he "thinks you should have somebody from Atlanta representing Atlanta...so we should give 'em that spice. Someone like Migos, Future — I'll come do "Hard in Da Paint... but it's the NFL we're talking about. They're not fair."

  • Waka continued, "You're coming to the biggest black [city] in America. Why wouldn't you let a black artist perform to show the world you're progressing?"

Seventy percent of NFL players are Black, so should it really be this difficult to cater to this audience? Waka also said, "We made so much money for this organization. Majority of [their] players are from this culture. Majority of [their] players made this amount of money for them, why not humble down?"

The answer: that would be too much like right.

  • Fans also agreed with his stance and expressed their top contenders for the 2019 halftime show

  • Like the "No Hands" emcee said, "Maroon 5 is a legend, but let's be real."
