Snoop Lion Re-Teams With Hot Pockets
As one of hip hop's biggest marketing icons, Snoop has played a significant role in helping the once underground culture become one of today's biggest product sellers. He's teamed up with Adidas, Monster and Overstock.com, and last year he continued his ambassador work by partnering with Hot Pockets for the viral adaptation of his hit song, "Drop It Like It's Hot." This year, they're together again for "You Got What I Eat."
The four-and-a-half minute clip, which offers a mouth-watering take on Biz Markie's classic "Just A Friend," has Snoop playing "The Baker" alongside blonde bombshell Kate Upton and Oliver Cooper (The Butcher). 106 & Park host Bow Wow and news anchor Larry King also make cameo appearances.
"Hip hop is the number one thing in the world right now," Snoop told BET.com. "It's bigger than sports, it's bigger than everything because everything has to have hip hop involved in it for it to work ... so for Hot Pockets to step to me and give me the chance to do what I do is normal. It's a sign of the times — this ain't the '90s, it's 2013. They gotta play according to what's going on and I'm what's hip."
Snoop should know. He's gotten down with some of the biggest names in music and is helping to put on some newer ones who share his, namely Spanky Danky and Dirty D, his sons, who joined the multi-platinum MC for the album The Broadus Boyz. Snoop said his boys experienced a different dad than they were used to when it came time to hit the studio.
"They saw a different side of me," Snoop recalled. "I was more like a coach, giving them direction on what they should be saying and how they should be delivering they s--t. It wasn't about me no more it was about us coming together and just being equal and doing what we do."
The one collaboration that has eluded the Doggfather-turned-Lion King?
"I really wanna work with Sade," he said. "That'd be like a dream come true for me."
Unc then gave a message to relay to the ageless beauty: "I'm tryna do some music with you. This is me baby, holla at me."
