Cardi B Calls Out IG For Addressing Likes Before Hateful Comments
Instagram has been catching flack online since the social platform announced its controversial decision to hide likes.
Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, announced last week at an event that the feature will be rolling out in the U.S. sometime next week following test trials in other countries. According to Mosseri, the move comes as an attempt to help users foster a more healthy relationship with the app.
On the other hand, critics feel the platform should focus on curbing the toxic behavior that has ramped up in recent years. Bronx rap star Cardi B is the latest to add her voice to the growing wave of dissent.
On Sunday (Nov. 10), the “Press” rapper posted a two-minute video on Instagram where she aired out that she feels removing the like feature won’t make the platform any less toxic because the “comments affect more than the likes.”

“Where I think Instagram got a little nasty and it took a weird turn is when people were allowed to like comments or to reply back to somebody’s comment,” she began. “That’s when I feel like people started just saying nasty things out of hand. If anything is affecting Instagram right now, I really feel it’s the way the comments have been done in the past few years.”
She continued: “I feel like people have been saying the weirdest s**t, starting the craziest arguments, and starting to race bait, all because of comments, because they want to get to the top and get the most comments. The comments affect more than the likes.”
