Bobby Shmurda Is Denied Bail for a Seventh Time
Bobby Shmurda was denied bail in court today, marking a seventh failed attempt at release since his arrest just over a year ago. New York City Judge Abraham Clott ruled that there was “no subjective change” to warrant the request, The Fader reports.
The Brooklyn rapper’s family is “frustrated," lawyer Alex Spiro said. According to TMZ, Spiro argued that Shmurda’s bail should be lowered substantially due to his net worth, which is just below $500,000, versus the $20 million estimated.
Though Clott denied his request, Spiro plans to continue fighting for lower bail. In court last week, he questioned the credibility of the officers involved in Shmurda’s apprehension.
Shmurda faces various charges including conspiracy to commit murder, in addition to charges for allegedly smuggling a homemade knife into jail. If convicted, the 21-year-old recording artist could spend up to 25 years in jail.
He’s scheduled to head back to court next month.
