Tragic: Former Jets Player Joe McKnight Shot Dead in New Orleans
Former Jets running back, 28-year-old Joe McKnight is dead following a shooting in a New Orleans suburb on Thursday afternoon.
The shooting occured after McKnight and a man, identified as Ronald Gasser, engaged in a road rage incident around 3PM. Gasser reportedly remained at the scene of the crime after the altercation, giving his gun to authorities when they arrived.
One witness told The Times-Pecayune that McKnight was "trying to apologize" just before Gasser shot him multiple times. The witness said the shooter "stood over" McKnight's body yelling, "I told you don't f*** with me," before firing another shot.
Former teammates and coaches have already taken to social media to express their sorrow.
McKnight's death comes only months after former NFL star Will Smith was also gunned down in New Orleans following a road rage incident.
