New Spike Lee Joint to Debut at Sundance Film Festival
After an ill-advised trip to Italy for his last directorial effort, Miracle at St. Anna, Spike Lee is bringing it home to Brooklyn for his new joint, Red Hook Summer. The film — a welcome return to Spike's indie roots after a detour into the world of studio films — will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
Red Hook Summer is about an Atlanta boy who comes to Brooklyn for the summer to spend time with the grandfather he never knew. In it, Lee reprises his character Mookie, made famous in Do the Right Thing.
The Sundance Film Festival kicks off on January 19 in Park City, Utah. Red Hook Summer will open theatrically later next year.
