[Watch] Cornel West Call Out Hillary's Lip-synch Battle
Hillary Clinton has taken her fair share of criticism during this 2016 election season, but this latest shot came from an unexpected place, academia.
Author, professor and civil rights activist Cornel West had some scathing remarks for the former secretary of state.
“Sister Hillary Clinton is the Milli Vanilli of American politics,” the 62-year-old academic said. “She lip-synchs, she gives lip service. But when it comes to policy, who supported the crime bill? Who supported, not just the deregulating of banks, but also pulled the rug from under welfare?”
Dr. West was alluding to the deregulation of banks and the redefining of federal responsibility of welfare, which were implemented during the administration of President Bill Clinton, but the "Milli Vanilli” of American politics?
Mama said there'd be days like this, but this may be a bit harsher than presidential candidate Hillary Clinton might have expected. The remarks were given by Dr. West during a Monday morning CNN interview with Chris Cuomo.
West, a career-long professor and social activist, went on to highlight the differences between Clinton and her opponent, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. According to Dr. West it came down to action — Sanders had an active role in the civil rights movement in the 1960s, which included getting arrested at a rally. Dr. West also brought up the point that Sanders’s commitment to the Black community did not stop in the 1960s, it continued when he supported Jesse Jackson for president in 1988.
Clinton has yet to respond to Dr. West’s comments. It is not yet known if she will respond at all, but one thing is certain, Hillary Clinton as the Milli Vanilli of American politics is sure to provide some humorous fodder for SNL this weekend.
