Florida Woman Charged With Murdering A Man Claims Self-Defense
Sharainnia Gornail is claiming self-defense after she shot and killed a man outside of a hookah bar in Lakeland, Florida on Sunday, November 7.
According to a press release from the Lakeland Police Department, police arrived on the scene to find a 31-year-old man who was shot several times. The man, whose name has not been released, died shortly after arriving at Lakeland Regional Hospital.
Investigators claim witnesses saw the man and 30-year-old Sharainnia arguing outside of The Hookah Palace. The both had been “striking each other multiple times,” according to police.
Witnesses alleged Gornail was seen walking away from the man, grabbing a gun from a vehicle and began shooting the male victim. Police claim Gornail left the scene in a car driven by a friend.
Gornail was receiving treatment at an emergency room when she told the medical staff she was involved in a shooting. Police were notified and came to the emergency room. Gornail reportedly admitted to the shooting and was taken to the police station for questioning. Gornail claimed she shot the male victim in self-defense because he punched her in the face.
Police said Gornail shot the male victim when there was no longer an active threat to her safety. She was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Sharainnia Gornail is being held without bond.
