Celebrate Afrocentric Culture Worldwide This Month
No matter where you are—whether out of state or out of the country—Afrocentric events are happening everywhere. From one of the biggest Afrobeat festivals, Afro Nation, to prestigious award shows like SGWA, there are plenty of exciting events happening this month.
BET has compiled a list of these must-attend events for you to explore. The best part? You don’t have to be African to join in the celebration!
Afro Nation
The latest Afro Nation is happening in Detroit, Michigian from Saturday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 18. Rema, Lil Wayne, Asake, and PARTYNEXTDOOR are set to headline the festival.
Other acts performing are Shenseea, Ayra Starr, Uncle Waffles, Adekunle Gold, Omah Lay, King Promise, and more.

SGWA Awards
The fourth annual SGWA Awards, founded by Fatima Danso, will take place on Friday, Aug. 30 at De Mikele illagio in Queens, New York.
The event celebrates the vibrant culture and remarkable achievements of the SeneGambian, as well as other West African communities in America.
Gambian superstar Jizzle is set to be a headliner. This will mark his debut U.S. performance. Senegalese singer Titi will be making a comeback as a headliner after being away from the U.S. for over 10 years.

The Amapiano and Afrobeats Experience: Prelude to Notting Hill Carnival
Unik Ernest's Culturin and Abesi Manyando's 7thandLotus will be hosting the Amapiano and Afrobeats Experience in London, England ahead of the Notting Hill Carnival. The celebrity-filled party is set to happen on Thursday, Aug. 22.
The purpose of this event is to highlight the influence of African music in the Caribbean culture and beyond.

Sounds of Afrobeats
The fifth annual Sounds of Afrobeats is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 in Brooklyn, NY.
The one-day music festival, curated by Chief Dejjy and Mr. Bello, celebrates the history, culture, and art of African music.
You can expect live performances, face painting , photo booths, and a vendor market with delicious food and drinks. Local artists like Yahya Rich, Tima J, Andi K, Meday, Laik, Alhaji Currency, Oboyyemaa, Nova Blaq, Diallo Brutherz, and more will take the stage.

A Glimpse of Africa
A Glimpse of Africa festival is set to take place from Friday, Aug. 9 to Sunday, Aug. 11. This event is known to be West Michigan's largest African festival.
The annual event brings people together to celebrate, educate, and share African cultures through food, music, dance, fashion, and art.
Africa Fest
African Association of Madison, Inc.'s Africa Fest is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Wisconsin's McPike Park.
The event celebrates and shares African traditions and cultural heritages with the community -- providing opportunities to improve race relations, promote inclusiveness and encourage diversity initiatives in the greater Madison area.
