Jill Scott Mixes the Old With the New at Intimate Showcase

Jilly From Philly premiered fresh cuts from her upcoming LP Woman at MIST Harlem.

Jill Scott's back, folks, and she's got a lot to say! The R&B/soul powerhouse treated an intimate crowd at MIST Harlem in New York City to a live preview of her new album, Woman, with a sprinkling of the classic cuts that we've grown to love from her over the years.

Sponsored by haircare brand Beautiful Textures, the event was undoubtedly the hot ticket of the evening, with other celebrities like singer Monifah and journalist Michaela Angela Davis stopping by to see Jilly From Philly in action.

After the chaos of the jam-packed room was settled, the songstress strutted onto the stage donning a gorgeous full 'fro, blue jeans and a patterned open tunic, ready to bring the house down. "I just finished mastering my album today, guys," she giddily announced with a schoolgirl giggle. While the audience roared after her entrance, she kicked off her set with a funky rendition of her 2000 hit "A Long Walk," to which the entire room sang along in symphony.

She followed with a highly anticipated performance of "It's Love," another 2000 classic. Scott then delved into a set of new cuts which all followed the common thread of love and loss. Of the newly debuted tracks, the consensual favorite of the night was undeniably the sassy mid-tempo "Closure," which she gave a heartfelt prelude. "You know, sometimes you just need that closure, and you can't move on without it," she said.

Another beautiful moment in the showcase was introduced when she sang to her toddler son, Jett, who sat front-row center as he watched his mom slay the stage.

After what proved to be a soulful evening dealing with the woes of the heart, Scott ended her set with an upbeat performance of her 2004 signature smash "Golden," which she belted while making her exit through the standing crowd.
