Viral Video Shows White Confederate Flag Supporter Say 'Do You Know How Much A Slave Cost' When Asked Who Worked His Family's Farm
Amid the racial tensions present in our country, HBO's Last Week Tonight tackled the issue of the Confederacy and the monuments erected to honor it.
Throughout the 20-minute long segment, host John Oliver raised several points explaining why the country needs to accept honoring soldiers of the Confederacy is honoring those who wanted to enslave others.
"If the Confederacy was not about slavery, somebody should really go back in time and tell the f**king Confederacy that,” says Oliver.
Although Oliver delivered some great lines against Confederate monuments, one particular moment involving a descendant of white Confederates in the South and a Black man became a viral video.
In the clip, the Black man tried explaining the Confederate flag represents slavery and the white man tried (and boy did he try) to say his family couldn't afford slaves
"My family fought to save their farm under this flag," the white man yelled.
"Who was working that farm," responded the Black man in an effort to make the white man realize slavery was the root of the Confederacy issue.
"My family was, they were poor. Do you know how much a slave cost back then?," the white man ignorantly yelled back in a weak attempt to make the conversation better.
In the clip, originally taken by WFAA, the Black man walks away after the disgusting comment
People seemed shocked the man could actually use 'my family was too poor to afford slaves' as a comeback

Many seemed to wish the argument ended after the unidentified Black man offered the 'who was working that farm' question
