Nelly: I Need to Be More Aware of My Associates
After being arrested last weekend for drug possession, Nelly is pointing the finger at some of his acquaintances. The "Grillz" rapper is calling out some of the random folks on his tour bus for the charge and is making the decision to give access only to those who deserve it.
Nelly told TMZ that he blames himself for allowing strangers into his personal space: "I feel the need to take responsibility for my choices in needing to be more aware of all the people I associate with and allow onto my property."
The St. Louis rapper's attorney, Scott Rosenblum, seems to agree with his client's sentiment, pointing out that Nelly is not solely to blame for the crime as there were several people at the scene. "Nelly was one of several individuals that was on a tour bus that was stopped and searched while traveling through Tennessee. In fact, there had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop."
The Nellyville star also added that his decision to tighten his circle is in the best interest of his family, friends and fans. "While my instinct of course, is to be accessible to my friends, fans and acquaintances, the last thing I would want to do is compromise the respect and admiration of my friends, family and fans."
Nelly, 40, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine — though his lawyer claims it was ecstacy — and marijuana.
