Chris Rock’s Brother Kenny Wants The Academy To Revoke Will Smith’s Oscar
Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Kenny shared that he discovered what happened to his brother through a video posted on social media and first thought it was staged. The 42-year-old says that after he heard Smith yelling and cursing at his brother he believed that viral incident was the furthest from fake.
“It eats at me watching it over and over again because you’ve seen a loved one being attacked and there’s nothing you can do about it,” Kenny Rock told the Times. “Every time I’m watching the videos, it’s like a rendition that just keeps going over and over in my head. My brother was no threat to him and you just had no respect for him at that moment. You just belittled him in front of millions of people that watch the show.”
When it comes to what he thinks is the most reasonable disciplinary action against Smith, Kenny wants the Academy of Motion Picture Arsts and Sciences to take away the actors Academy Award for his performance in King Richard and prohibit him from attending the Oscars in the future.
Smith has already resigned from The Academy as result of his actions while a formal review is currently taking place.
In case you missed it, while Chris Rock was presenting the award for “Best Documentary” at the tk Academy Awards, the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
“Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,” Chris Rock said.
The joke was in reference to Jada’s shaved head, a possible result of her recent struggles with the hair condition alopecia.
After the joke, Smith walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock. He returned to his seat and shouted at the entertainer to “keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”
Sony and Netflix have also paused their projects that star Will Smith including Bad Boys 4 and an original movie Fast and Loose.
