Adele Is Officially Back With 25

She penned a personal letter explaining her absence.

Over the weekend, Adele shared a snippet of a new song in a commercial during the U.K. version of X-Factor that signaled her return. It was about 30 seconds and started with a greeting: “Hello, it’s me.”

Earlier this morning, the Grammy Award-winning singer tweeted a personal letter that updated her fans on her whereabouts and confirmed her upcoming album, 25, is finally coming.

She explained that 2011’s 21 was a break-up record and 25 can be viewed as a make-up record. “I’m making up for myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did.”

The letter breaks down her need to be older back then and how life has changed since turning 25. “Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, I made the decision to go into becoming who I‘m going to be forever without a removal van full of my old junk.”

Adele’s absence from music has made plenty of headlines. Since reaching universal stardom with 21, she underwent vocal cord surgery and gave birth to her son, Angelo. Musically, she created the theme to Skyfall, but left the spotlight again.

"25 is about getting to know who I’ve become without realizing. And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened," she wrote.
