Sherman Hemsley’s Alleged Brother Must Get DNA Test
Sherman Hemsley passed away two months ago, but two of his alleged survivors are still battling over the actor's estate.
The Associated Press is reporting that a Texas judge has ordered that DNA testing must be done on a man claiming to be Hemsley’s brother. The man, Richard Thornton, is currently challenging the validity of The Jeffersons’ star's will — he says it may not have been made by the actor. The will names Hemsley's longtime manager, Flora Enchinton, as sole beneficiary.
Until the matter is resolved the actor's remains will continue to be refrigerated at an East El Paso, Texas, funeral home. The body must stay there, unburied, until a probate trial ends and a beneficiary is determined.
Court documents list the value of Hemsley’s estate as being well over $50,000.
Thornton, who requested the DNA testing, must submit all results by October 15. The trial was originally set for this past Monday, but Judge Patricia Chew has rescheduled the date for October 31.
Hemsley died of lung cancer in El Paso on July 24.
