More Life, Less Secrets: 12 Questions Answered On Drake's 'More Life'

We learned a lot more about the 6 God than expected.

The 6 God Drake has answered the prayers of his global fan base and finally dropped his playlist/curation project, More Life.

It’s been a long time coming, but the 22 tracks composing the project have given Drizzy fans a well-deserved sigh of relief. With influence from internationally based artists from areas like London and Sweden, classic R&B sampling, a slab of Caribbean flavor and, of course, the in-house crew over at OVO Sound, the lengthy track list should be enough to hold everyone over at least until summer.

But prior to More Life’s release, there were even more secrets, controversies and suspicions with Drizzy’s name labeled at the forefront. And despite his tell-all flow that has made glowingly-reviewed albums such as Take Care and hit singles like “Started From the Bottom” reach glorious levels of critical acclaim, there’s still questions lingering about matters that he’s still kept rather tight-lipped about.

Here are 12 of the most pressing questions we’ve deemed answer-worthy from More Life.

  1. Was DraLo a pair or a ploy?

I drunk text J.Lo / Old number so it bounce back — “Free Smoke”

It seems more often than not that Drizzy and drunk just don't go well when it comes to the whole love thing. But in terms of an actual business partnership veiled by a fling between him and Jennifer Lopez, this lyric and his sampling of her 1999 hit "If You Had My Love" for his "Teenage Fever" says business over bae-dom.

  2. Despite their quietly declared rap war, has Drake learned anything from Jay Z anyway?

I didn’t listen to Hov on that old song / when he told me pay it no mind / I get more satisfaction outta goin' at your head / And seeing all of you die  — “Free Smoke”

The advice in question was from Drake's Jay Z-assisted "Light Up" single of 2010. As Drizzy continued making waves on the hip-hop scene, Jay warned him of "silly rap feuds" that would be aimed at him along the way. Ironically, he and Jay ended up with their own history of fired shots at each other while Drake has also entered war territory with Meek MillTory LanezJoe Budden and a few others.

  3. After fickle critical reception, what did Drake have to say about 'Views'?

I was an angry youth when I was writing Views / Saw a side of myself that I just never knew — “Do Not Disturb”

Views included a healthy number of deeply introspective tracks from Drake such as "Keep the Family Close" and "Redemption." But in this revelation, even he admits that he wasn't in a familiar frame of mind while crafting his fourth studio undertaking. Despite him experiencing an alter ego of sorts, Views still earned Grammy nods and Billboard chart-toppers anyway.

  5. How does Drizzy handle long-distance relationships?

Listen, hard at building trust from a distance / I think we should rule out commitment for now — “Passionfruit”

Put simply, he doesn't. Just as Drake's numerous sightings with the finest ladies of Hollywood have sparked fling rumors, they've also sparked suspicion as to how he balances out such a booming career that's certain to include a tight schedule. Sans commitment, as he so delicately puts it, love and relationships is just something that Drake doesn't seem willing to bet chips on right now.

  6. Are there any more shots left for Meek Mill?

How you let the kid fightin’ ghostwriting rumors turn you into a ghost? — “Free Smoke”

All you did was write the book on garbage a** Rollies / Ego stroking, picture posting / Claiming that you'd do it for motivational purposes only, but you just had to show me / See I know because I study you closely, I know when somebody lying  “Lose You”

Finally got my mind in a free state / N****s tried to serve me up a cheesesteak / I gave them back a clean plate — “Can’t Have Everything”

Plenty. Alluding to the ghostwriting catalyst that triggered his public rap spat with Meek Mill, taking hip-hop's center stage for two years, Drizzy unloaded a few more clips for the MMG rap star. To begin with, there's talk of Rolexes, one of Meek's most celebrated rap star souvenirs, as a target point for Drizzy. And of course, there's also the sharp reference to the world-famous cheesesteak of Meek's Philadelphia home grounds, which Drake likened to the rap beef that will forever be attached to the hip-hop biographies of both men.

  7. How did Drizzy’s mom take in all of her only son’s rap controversies?

You know, hun, I'm a bit concerned about this negative tone that I'm hearing in your voice these days. I can appreciate where your uncertainly stems from and you have reason to question your anxieties and how disillusioned you feel, as well as feeling skeptical about who you believe you can trust. But that attitude will just hold you back in this life and you're going to continue to feel alienated. Give some thought to this, because I’m confident in you and I know you can reach your desired destination and accomplish your goals much more quickly without this confrontation I'm hearing in your tone these days. When others go low, we go high. — Can’t Have Everything” [Outro]

From the voicemail message of Ms. Sandi Graham herself, it doesn't get much more self-explanatory than this.

  9. Which bank does Drizzy use?

Tell your big homie I'm all for goin' there again / He ain't even die and I ball with his inheritance / All that's in my account at the Bank of America — “Can’t Have Everything”

We're certain that the nation's second-ranked largest bank isn't the only one with Drake's name on an account, but it's definitely one worthy of a name-drop. And boasting a reported net worth of $60 million, Drake also joins rap's richest with his OVO crown raking in big numbers for him as well.

  10. At 30 years old, is Drake finally ready to settle down?

I need you to stop running back to your ex, he’s a wasteman / I wanna know how come we can never slash and stay friends? — “Blem”

Love is just not in my plans / Not even taking a chance — “KMT”

Where else would we get our heartbreak fixes from if he ever did? "Making a career off of reminiscing," a truth he spoke to for Views' "U With Me?," is just a habit Drake is having a tough time shaking. Even if he does lace his heart strings into his fan favorite R&B hits, he's not looking for too many strings attached with any single individual any time soon.

  11. How did he take the news of Serena Williams’s engagement?

Did I just read that you just got engaged on me? / I heard from your friend, you couldn't even tell me / Or better yet wait on me — "Nothings Into Somethings"

Considering that he's admitted he isn't ready to tie any love knots in the near future, certainly he understands that's not the case for everyone else. While the fling rumors between Serena and Drizzy may have only been just those, rumors, he still seems to have some thoughts about being blindsided by it all.

  13. Is his mother’s health getting any better?

Only child that’s taking care of his mother as health worsens and bills double / That’s not respectable all of a sudden? — “Lose You”

In 2010, Drake postponed his European tour to be with his mom after the news that she'd be undergoing surgery. The announcement was coupled with a tweet where he asked fans for prayers as well. While he hasn't spoken much on her status ever since, his line onMore Life's 16th track may be more telling than some realize.

Prayers still up for Ms. Sandi!

  14. Will we ever see a truce between him and fellow Torontonian Tory Lanez for a possible collaboration?

If we do a song it's like takin' my kids to work with me / You overnight celebrity, you one day star / Swear I Told You that I'm in this b***h for eternity / I am a reflection of all of your insecurities / Behind closed doors, a lot of 6 God worshipping / Done talk now, 'cause there's other s**t that's concernin' me — “Do Not Disturb”

Unfortunately enough, the chances of a hatchet burial with Tory look slim to none. Taking anything but subtle shots at him, his "one day star" allusion directly punctures Tory's real-name, Daystar Peterson. Pressing more weight into the lyrical wound, Drizzy's unfavorable mention of Tory's debut album, I Told You, with the debut single "One Day," answers the question loud and crystal clear.

  15. Is there a Drake hiatus upon us?

Takin' summer off, 'cause they tell me I need recovery / Maybe gettin' back to my regular life will humble me / I'll be back in 2018 to give you the summary — “Do Not Disturb”

Drake has made a big name for himself off of summer dominations, but by way of this album-concluding line, he may be throwing in the summer towel for 2017. While "regular life" seems far-fetched for a rap star of Drake's caliber at this point, the hope now is that he'll have another surprise in store for us possibly in another circle of Hollywood instead.
