Rep. Colin Allred Raises Huge Fundraising Haul To Challenge GOP Sen. Ted Cruz
Texas Rep. Colin Allred’s latest fundraising haul is attracting attention and helps put him in a position to challenge incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz for the upcoming senate race.
According to The Hill, Allred, 40, leads all candidates in the race to unseat Cruz. He brought in about $4.7 million during the third quarter from more than 80,000 individual donors. There was an average of $29.87 per donation, and about 95 percent of the donations were less than $100.
He received donations from 236 counties throughout Texas, according to Spectrum News.
“Beyond grateful for this immense showing of grassroots support,” Allred shared on X.
“Team Allred is powered by folks who know we don’t have to be embarrassed by our Senator — we can get a new one. Let’s keep this momentum going to retire Ted Cruz and bring new leadership to the Senate!” the message continued.
In the second quarter, the Dallas Democrat outraised Cruz, earning $6.4 million in donations in the first two months of his campaign through June 30, compared to Cruz’s $3.4 million in the same period.
Cruz has held his Senate seat since 2013 and edged out a 2018 victory against former Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke by 2.6 percent.
Cruz is favored to win reelection, but Democrats are trying to flip his seat, as Allred continues his push.
