Issa Rae Was Caught Slipping At The Emmys, And Twitter Is Dragging Her
The 2018 Emmy Awards, which aired on Monday night, featured a slew of moments that had Black Twitter experiencing a range of emotions. From not one person of color winning an award an hour into the show to some claiming a few white winners were undeserving of their victory, Black viewers were going through it last night.
However, the moment that seems to be etched in several folks' minds involves Betty White, Issa Rae, a badly timed look down and a shady camera man.
The moment was introduced while the Golden Girls star received a standing ovation after her extensive Emmy history was run down by Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon.
While White was delivering her speech to the crowd, the camera panned to Rae, who was looking down at her phone — a gesture many thought implied she was disinterested in what was happening.
As expected, some Twitter users weren't happy with this:
Folks were fuming at the thought that the Insecure star was disrespecting the legend during her honor:

However, not all shared this sentiment, as some came to her defense in the moment with many claiming that the actress was entitled to perform a gesture as simple as checking her phone if she pleased:
