Queen Latifah to Host Talk Show in 2013
All hail: Queen Latifah is heading back to daytime TV to host a new syndicated talk show that’s scheduled to air in 2013.
Sony Pictures announced on Monday (October 31) that it will team up with Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment to produce the show. The three mega-stars stars will serve as executive producers on the yet-to-be-titled project, continuing a long professional history together (Queen Latifah’s first role was on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — which was also Will’s first acting role; Jada and Latifah starred together in the 1996 film Set it Off). Overbrook’s James Lassiter and Miguel Melendez as well as Flavor Unit co-founder Shakim Compere will also executive produce.
“This forum is the perfect place to showcase Latifah’s tremendous range of talents and unique ability to connect and inspire people,” said Melendez.
The new program won’t be the rapper-turned-Oscar nominated actress’ first time heading a talk show: in 1999 she hosted The Queen Latifah Show, which ran for two seasons. She has also racked up other production credits on BET’s Let’s Stay Together and VH1’s Single Ladies.
