Michael K. Williams Names His Crew of Hip-Hop and R&B Assassins
Michael K. Williams is one of the most versatile actors working today and has the ability to disappear into any role he plays — from a stickup man on The Wire to a bootlegger in Boardwalk Empire, a prison lord in this year's hit mini-series The Night Of and now, a "voodoo assassin" in Assassin's Creed. Chances are, you've seen MKW on TV or the big screen before.
We got the veteran and prolific actor in our studio for a quick interview about his career, his fears and, of course, his taste in hip hop.
"When I first got offered the part for Assassin's Creed I was very intimidated when I found out that it had such a huge fan base." Adding, "I had no prior knowledge to that fanbase before I got the job, it was very intimidating and at the same time it was very challenging I wanted to make sure I did my best."
"If I had to pick an Assassin's crew from Hip Hop and R&B and it would be Jay Z, Nas, Pac, Biggie, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Common, yeah I'll stop at seven right now. I can go on and on!"
"Some of the lowest moments I've had working in Hollywood were due to personal issues. Primarily with me just growing the heck up, becoming a man, just dealing with my demons in a public setting. Some of my highest points, I don't think I've reached my highest points. I'm still climbing."
"I think the BET audience will enjoy the Assassin's Creed movie because it's for their generation primarily, and it's a timely message." Adding, "Now is the time to lock into your superpowers, if you will, from your ancestral energy because we do come from a great lineage of great Kings and Queens in Africa and it's time to start tapping into that."
See Williams talk about becoming and Assassin's Creed fanboy after he got a part in the film, and who he would recruit for his hip hop assassins in our exclusive interview, above.
Assassin's Creed is in theaters now.
