Scarface Announces New Album and Book
Houston hip hop legend Scarface will be releasing his 12th album, Deeply Rooted, this year along with a new book, co-authored by Benjamin Meadows-Ingram. The Geto Boys co-founder announced his first project since 2008’s Emeritus in an online trailer titled The Road to #DeeplyRooted.
There is no release date set for Deeply Rooted, but Face played snippets of his new material in the Webisode. He also appeared to have lost weight and re-gained focus on his rap career. "I’m talking ‘bout my life, talkin’ ‘bout the good times, the bad times," said Face about the content of Deeply Rooted.
Face has been critical of the direction of mainstream hip hop culture, claiming in a 2013 interview with HardknockTV that hip hop is being whitewashed like rock 'n' roll.
"There's no f----- way you can tell me that it's not a conspiracy against the Blacks in hip hop," said Face last April. "Because you put out f----- records that make us look stupid, that make us look dumb."
The frustrated veteran went on to tweet, “Hip Hop history will be rewritten as rock and roll has been, never said segregate it just dont s--- on the n---- like ya did chuck berry...[sic]."
Despite his old school perspective, his new vlog and social media presence prove Face is ready to attack the new music landscape. "The game the same, it don’t switch," said Scarface. "Same rules apply in this game as it did in the other games." Despite his criticisms of the music industry, he revealed that he is a big fan of SchoolBoy Q’s “Man of the Year” single.
The first Road To #DeeplyRooted Webisode includes behind-the-scenes footage of a new photo shoot and an appearance from Face’s co-author and former XXL and Vibe writer Benjamin Meadow-Ingram.
