While Mitt Romney had trouble hiding his long face after the election, some of his young supporters in Mississippi didn’t even bother to conceal their disappointment, starting a riot on the campus of the University of Mississippi instead.

Talk about sore losers.

After Tuesday’s election was called in favor of President Obama, a group of students at the university gathered in protest of the president’s victory, shouting racist chants and setting fire to Obama campaign paraphernalia.

A crowd of 30 quickly swelled to nearly 400 students as word of the protest spread via social media. Students reported rocks being thrown and harsh, racist language being used in the crowd.                                            

Despite student reports and photos, the university did its best to cast doubt on the severity of the incident, noting that the campus police only witnessed racist language, but not the rock throwing or sign burning.

“The investigation of this event will be thorough and individuals found in violation of any law will be referred to appropriate authorities. Individuals found in violation of university policy will be dealt with appropriately through the student conduct process,” the university said in a statement obtained by Gawker.

The riot erupted on the heels of the 50th anniversary of the forced integration of Ole Miss that was met with intense violence.

Last month, Ole Miss selected its first African-American homecoming queen in the school’s history.
