Ludacris Explains Why He Is Prioritizing His Health

The rapper said he “wants to be strong” for his family.

Ludacris is putting his health first.

While appearing on the “Sherri” show hosted by Sherri Shepherd on Monday (Nov. 20), the Grammy-winning rapper discussed why he is determined to remain in tip-top condition. For him, it’s all about those who are nearest and dearest to him.

"I have to be strong for my daughters, for my family; I want to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible," he explained. "That's what I'm trying to do."

He also said that being a performer requires him to be fit.

“When I’m performing on stage, I have to be just as energetic when people first saw me, so I’m not losing any touches whatsoever,” he added.

Ludacris hopped onto the scene in 1999, then dropped his debut album "Back for the First Time" under Def Jam, including hit singles "What's Your Fantasy" featuring Shawnna that hit no. 21 on the Billboard 100 chart and "Southern Hospitality" that peaked at no. 23.

Since then, he has created multiple masterpieces, including acclaimed albums "Chicken-n-Beer" and "Release Therapy." He has collaborated with trailblazers, including Pharrell Williams, Mary J. Blige, Timbaland, and Missy.

Still, his most important role is being a dad of four. He shares daughters Chance, 2, and Cadence, 8, with his wife, Eudoxie Bridges, whom he exchanged vows with in 2015. He is also father to daughters Cai, 9, and Karma, 21, from previous relationships.

Later, during his one-on-one with Shepherd, she asked him if he ever gets out of breath while performing. For him, that's his motivation to prioritize his well-being.

“That’s part of the reason why I gotta stay healthy,” while adding he gets out of breath “because I leave everything on stage, 100%.”

Earlier this year, he joined Janet Jackson during her “Together Again” tour that touched down in cities across the country including Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York.

This month, the “Rollout” rapper also shared the stage with Usher during his Las Vegas residency for a surprise performance. “Every time we’re onstage, I absolutely love it. That’s my brother. We’re friends first, and we’ve been doing this for over two decades,” he said of his brotherhood with the “My Way” crooner. “We’ve got some strong records together, so it’s always an honor and a pleasure. We love what we do.”

Back in 2004, the hitmakers, along with rapper Lil Jon, dropped "Yeah!" which peaked at no. 1 for 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Usher will be performing at the Super Bowl in 2024. When Shepherd asked if fans can expect to see the both of them onstage together again, he said, “I don’t know. We’ll see. You’ll have to watch the Super Bowl to find out.”
