Thousands have been left without power in an area on the outskirts of the city that had been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Two tornadoes that hit New Orleans have caused severe damage and left one person dead.

The first tornado struck the Lower Ninth Ward and the New Orleans East community at approximately 8 p.m. on March 22. A second tornado touched down in Lacombe in St. Tammany Parish, the National Weather Service reports.

According to The Washington Post, John Lane, a spokesman for St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis, said a 26-year-old man was found dead outside of his home Arabi, La., a suburb of New Orleans. The victim’s name has not been made public.

There were also multiple injuries, including a girl in a wheelchair, but the exact number is unknown at this time.
