Details Behind the Rape Accusation Against Derrick Rose That Could Already Affect the Knicks' Season
Derrick Rose isn't any stranger to injuries, having only played in 100 games from the 2011-12 season to his 2014-15 campaign.
Having been traded from the Chicago Bulls to the New York Knicks on Wednesday, Rose could potentially miss more games this season... and it wouldn't have anything to do with injuries.
Multiple reports are saying that Rose's rape/sexual battery case is slated to go to trial on October 4, which is coincidentally the same day as the NBA preseason tipping off.
The woman, only identified as "Jane Doe" in her lawsuit, alleges that Rose and two of his friends drugged and gang-raped her in August 2013. She's suing Rose for $21.5 million — $15.5 million in punitive damages and $6 million additionally in compensatory damages.
The former NBA MVP has admitted to having a sexual relationship with the woman, but has maintained that it was consensual.
Furthermore, Rose's attorney, Lisa Cohen, told TMZ last August that the woman is merely making "an attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete," vowing that the NBA star will be vindicated.
As aggressive as New York City media is, Rose's transition to the Knicks could get off to a tumultuous start if he's constantly being asked about his alleged crime.
Sounds like a public relations nightmare, indeed.
