While there were no big surprises at the top of the box office this weekend, The Amazing Spider-Man snatched first place with an impressive $140 million debut, Brave held on to family audiences at third place, and second-place Ted bested Oliver Stone's Savages in the competition for adults, bringing its domestic total to an unexpected $120 million.

Katy Perry: Part of Me, the 3-D concert documentary about pop's reigning queen of positivity (and Rihanna's bestie), failed to bring in even a fraction of the singer's 22 million Twitter followers. The film, which opened on Thursday, brought in only $10.2 million, sinking to eighth place behind Madagascar 3...which has been out for over a month. Perhaps the filmmakers should have included some footage of Perry and Rih Rih partying in Rio and gone after the Girls Gone Wild audience?

On the indie circuit, Beasts of the Southern Wild continues its slow audience build, expanding to 19 theaters around the country and earning a respectable $745,376 in its two weeks of release.
Next week, Ice Age: Continental Drift will attempt to freeze Spidey and Brave out of the top of the chart, and we'll see if Ted can continue its improbable box-office run.
