Look: Black Dating App Let's You Choose Your Partner Based on Skin Color and Hair Texture

Here's why Twitter is trying to get it shut down.

The world of online dating and matchmaking apps is about as diverse as the people who use them, with apps targeting every kind of group and subgroup you could think of. But a new one aimed at Black singles, called Smoochr, may have gone too far, allowing users to specifically search based on skin color and hair texture.

Smoochr is trying to turn colorism and hair fetishes within the Black community into dating preferences and Twitter users are calling it out for its hypocrisy and racism.

Smoochr explains their goals on their site, saying that it was created because "there's nothing 'Black' about the dating sites we have now. Most of them are regular dating sites that are just marketed to Black people. They don't focus on the Black experience in the dating world."

On top of that, The Root has reported that the site is only available to heterosexual individuals as the only gender options are "woman seeking a man" and "man seeking a woman."

The app then makes users describe their complexion with adjectives like "mocha," "almond" and "latte." Smoochr doesn't stop there, however. It then makes users describe their body type, their hair type and even their lip type.

Users have taken to Twitter to voice their anger, with many using the hashtag #shutdownsmoochr.

So far, there's no word from the app's creator, Larry Kenebrew Jr., but it's clear people hope this app goes away just as quickly as it showed up.
