Rachel Roy turned heads earlier this week when she walked the red carpet at the New York premiere of One Day (starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess) in a striped pajama set accessorized with an oversized clutch, strappy Manolo Blahniks and geek-chic glasses.
Pajamas have been named a “rising trend” and popped up in the 2012 Resort collections of Celine, Louis Vuitton and Salvatore Ferragamo, but to actually wear an entire set in public, much less rationalize it at a dressy event!? That’s taking comfy chic beyond!
Although it may seem like she overslept and then ran out the door with a pair of heels and her bag, the designer says the ensemble wasn’t a fluke. “I have an 11-year-old and I like to show her that it’s OK to take fashion risks and to have fun and tell a story with fashion,” she said to InStyle when asked about the sleepwear.
She also wanted to show that anything can be fashionable as long as it’s worn with confidence.
“I tweeted this weekend that you can’t have style without confidence and I really do genuinely believe that. I also believe in balance. It was hard for me to find something to go with these shoes where I didn’t feel too dressed up and too done. So I thought this is how I can wear these shoes by Mr. Blahnik!” she laughed.
We dig Rachel’s unapologetic boldness, but we can’t say we’ll be trying dressed up pajamas any time soon. Would you?
