Tink Speaks on Lauryn Hill Comparisons on The Breakfast Club

Timbaland's protégé clear's up the producer's comments on her being "the one."

Hip hop newcomer Tink visited Power 105's The Breakfast Club and spoke on everything from her old soul to the huge expectations surrounding her debut. However, it was her comments on her most recent comparisons to Lauryn Hill and the late Aaliyah that stood out in the segment.

While some artists take insult to being likened to another artist, especially of the same genre, Timbaland's protégé has a more positive outlook, especially since the "Ex-Factor" singer is the subject: "If there's anybody I would want to be compared to, it would be Lauryn Hill," she said. "I think it comes up a lot of times because I sing and I rap and I have a message within my music and I'm not here to be a gimmick."

Another hot topic of the segment was her opinions on Timbaland's words on Aaliyah dubbing her "the one" in a dream he had: "I wasn't embarrassed," the 20-year-old said. "I was more so just thinking about the reaction. For Tim to say that on a big stage like that, I really automatically knew people were going to take it as him saying, 'Tink is the next Aaliyah.'"

Fans of the "Rock the Boat" singer need not worry, however, as Tink has nothing but respect for her music predecessor. "I want people to know there would never be another Aaliyah," she said. "He had a dream that Aaliyah came and said, 'She's the one,' not, 'She's the next me.'"

Elsewhere in the interview, the "Ratchet Commandments" emcee spoke about her roots in Chicago's Drill music scene, being embraced by Missy Elliott, and listening to Nicki Minaj and the Notorious B.I.G. before molding her own sound.
