Bobby Shmurda’s Parole Hearing Scheduled For This Month
It appears Bobby Shmurda may be returning home soon.
Speculation of the Brooklyn-raised rapper’s impending release started floating around on social media after a countdown ticker was added to his website last week, with multiple reports speculating that Shmurda’s hearing was scheduled for Tuesday (August 4). The premature reports turned out to be a false alarm, although his mother, Leslie Pollard, spoke to The Shade Room revealing that her son will have his day in court soon.
Pollard confirmed that her son’s parole hearing has been scheduled instead for August 18, telling the outlet, “We [are] very confident that things will go well and as always we know God will see us through. He always does.”
Pollard’s confirmation comes shortly after Complex reported that an official from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) confirmed Shmurda is scheduled to appear in court the week of August 17, though the official further explained that an official date for the hearing had yet to be set.
“Mr. Pollard is currently scheduled to appear before the Board of Parole the week of August 17, 2020,” the official told Complex. “The Board of Parole has two weeks from the date of the interview with the incarcerated individual to render a decision.”
If the parole board renders a decision that falls in his favor, Shmurda’s earliest date for parole eligibility is December 11, 2020. The latest he can be released from the Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York is a year later on December 11, 2021, according to Complex.
Born Ackquille Jean Pollard, Shmurda was sentenced to seven years behind bars back in 2016 after pleading guilty to criminal weapons possession and conspiracy charges once he and his GS9 gang affiliates were rounded up by the authorities.
The news comes as Shmurda celebrated his 26th birthday on Tuesday. Taking to Instagram, his mother wished her son a happy birthday reminding fans that there is humanity behind his rap persona.
“My boy is Caring, Sharing, Sweet, Loving, Loyal Energetic, Empathetic and Brave he is such a unique person,” she wrote. “I wouldn't trade my baby for the world. I am asking God to continue showering you with blessings my boy and I want you to understand that God has his way and he wouldn't bring you this far to let you down.”
