Zoe and Cisely Saldana Sign First-Look Deal With Lionsgate
Zoe Saldana is stepping behind the camera. The actress, along with her sister Cisely Saldana, has inked a first-look deal with Lionsgate Entertainment to create content for the Latino market, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The deal falls under Lionsgate's Pantelion division, aimed to serve the U.S. Hispanic community through films and television. It's the latest in a series of efforts the studio has made to reach minorities. Lionsgate has had major success distributing the films of Tyler Perry and Kevin Hart, and also has a first-look deal with CodeBlack Entertainment, which produces Hart's concert films.
The Star Trek actress, who is Dominican and Puerto Rican, says, "We look forward to a fruitful and productive relationship with Pantelion." No announcements have been made about projects for the newly minted banner.
Saldana was inaugurated into Hollywood's A-list with leading roles in two mega-franchises, Avatar and Star Trek, and sparked a firestorm of controversy when she accepted the role of Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic Nina.
Also, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rashida Jones and her sister Kidada Jones are teaming up for the CW dramedy Ladyballs via Warner Bros. Television, where Rashida is signed to a two-year pod deal. The series will follow twenty-something estranged friends in search of love in New York City. They are reunited when they discover they've been dating the same man.
