Zendaya Opens Up About Why It's Important to Keep Movies in Theaters
Zendaya is advocating for something close to her heart: keeping movies in theaters.
The “Challengers” star recently sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss everything from acting alongside beau Tom Holland, the future of the critically acclaimed series “Euphoria,” and everything in between.
While acknowledging how the industry landscape has shifted with the rise of streaming and social media, the Primetime Emmy winner revealed that she’s focused on preserving the moviegoing tradition.
The “Dune” star told the outlet, “There’s a lot of people whose job it is to work at a movie theater. And there’s a lot of smaller, family-owned theaters all over the place that we want to still exist.” She continued, “I think there’s something so special about going to a movie theater and experiencing a film in that way, with a group of strangers.”
The 28-year-old shared that her passion for the theater experience runs deep, recalling how she would spend countless hours at the movies.
“I grew up spending all day at the movie theater,” she said. “That’s all there was to do in the early 2000s after school. You’re just like, ‘I’ll meet you at the movies. Let’s go see whatever’s out.’ So that’s what I try to focus on—still being able to have that moviegoing experience for people and keep that going.”
The star later joked, “With that comes, okay, well, we’ve got to do a lot of press then. We’re going to have to wear some intense fits to get people to go.’”
Zendaya also spilled what she knew about the future of Euphoria, confirming that the series “is slated for January, I believe.” She admitted that while she hasn’t read anything, “I’m excited to see what everyone has been working on, and what the future looks like for “Euphoria.”
HBO recently announced that the third season of the teen drama will premiere next year, with all main cast members set to return.
