Dave Chappelle Planning New Show
Great news for Chappelle fans who are tired of replaying his old DVDs: The comedian is reportedly getting back in the TV game with a new show. “It’s not for a network. It’s for Netflix or Crackle or some other subscription service,” The Daily exclusively learned from an insider.
Chappelle shocked audiences in 2005 when he abruptly fled to South Africa and walked away from a $50 million contract that Comedy Central offered him for his hit Chappelle Show.
“I felt like some kind of prostitute or something,” he confessed to Oprah upon returning from his mysterious vacation. “If I feel so bad, why keep on showing up to this place? The hardest thing to do is to be true to yourself, especially when everybody is watching.”
A move to a streaming service could allow Chappelle to bypass the lack of creative control he claims he had at Comedy Central parent company Viacom.
