On Sunday night (Dec. 15), Diddy celebrated his milestone 50th birthday with a blowout extravaganza. It seemed literally every star in Hollywood arrived at the REVOLT mogul’s lavish Los Angeles home, and the night brought about the unexpected reunion of Jay and Kanye.

It’s been a while since the former collaborators have publicly been seen together since 2016, when Ye famously ranted about their falling out on stage mid-concert during a stop on his Saint Pablo Tour. Months later, Jay addressed their estrangement on his Grammy-winning opus 4:44, in “Kill Jay-Z.” 

Rumors of discord between the two first surfaced after the Roc Nation honcho and Beyoncé were notably out of attendance at Ye and Kim Kardashian-West’s 2014 wedding ceremony in Italy. Kanye later revealed to Big Boy on his eponymous radio talk show that the hip-hop power couple’s absence was a source of tension between him and Jay.

In a 2017 interview with The New York Times’  T Magazine, Hov touched on their strained relationship as well where he said he still had love for Ye despite their past differences, stating, "I [talked to] Kanye the other day, just to tell him, like, he's my brother," revealed Jay. "I love Kanye. I do. It's a complicated relationship with us." 

Most recently, Kanye told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe that he had a positive outlook on possibly patching things up between him and Jay. “With Jay, I love all of these people, but you gotta know there’s a lineage of Jay to Ye to Drake,” he said. “It’s like, this person is your idol. Then you get to know ’em, then you be friends, then you turn to frenemies, then you turn to enemies, and then you gotta bring back the positive energy. But that is the lineage of rap kings and inspirers.”

It seems Jay and Ye are back on good terms with each other as photos of the two exchanging pleasantries during the party flooded social media. At some point, Diddy corralled Ye, Pharrell and Jay together for a photo-op with the birthday boy himself.
